Randy and Sandra Matus - Parents of Kristen Matus

Our daughter Kristen is currently a first year student at The Advanced Academy of Georgia. We then, of course, can not speak of her remarkable future as it is still unfolding before our eyes, but we know without a doubt it will be remarkable. We, as parents of a high school junior, are in the midst of all those decisions that go on in those last high school years. You know - SAT or ACT? What Major? What College? Minor? A Foreign Language? This is an overwhelming time for any family. However, let me back up a bit to mention the many hours of family conversations, the many hours looking at the Academy web page, the Open House attended, the missing of a day of high school classes to shadow a current Academy student, and last, but not least, the many emails to staff members with our thousands of questions. Why back up to this? Well, even strangers offered opinions about whether or not our fifteen year old should go off to college. All said, "No." The experts we asked said, "No." Then again, none knew Kristen, who had simply learned all she could in a high school environment. This, by the way, was an exceptional neighborhood private school. We started to see some of her zest for learning disappear. The Advanced Academy of Georgia brought back all that zest for learning. She now looks forward to her classes, which are taught by dedicated college professors. Truly dedicated - if she approaches any of her professors with any questions, they are always ready to help. Everybody associated with the Advanced Academy of Georgia is like this. The program design helps with all the high school things that go on in the last years and guides us through the college decisions now being made. Being in such an incredible program, surrounded by caring and supportive staff 24 hours a day, who work so well with the unique needs of each of the students at the Academy, has shown us wonderful growth in our daughter toward becoming an independent, mature young adult. Hence, Kristen’s future can be nothing but remarkable having had the opportunity to participate in such an extraordinary program.
